Turnstone Mews – ARP does like to be beside the seaside
Turnstone Mews is an exclusive gated development of nine stylish new build apartments right on the beach at Margate.
The development features a striking modern but weatherproof design featuring made-to-measure aluminium roofline products, panels, copings, soffits, fascias and porches designed and made by aluminium roofline specialists ARP.
Turnstone Mews has been built with The Royal Sea Bathing Hospital as their backdrop.
The hospital opened in 1791 and was built to give London TB patients access to fresh sea air. The owners of the hospital, now a top-end residential development, stipulated that the new Turnstone Mews should not mimic its architectural style.
The architects at Studio Hudson certainly followed the brief, imagining a neat row of modern apartments with a beach hut-inspired roofline with large windows to maximise the potential offered by the uninterrupted sea and skyline views.
The developers, Kent-based Art of Living, worked closely with ARP right from the start of the design and build process.
ARP designed all of the aluminium elements of the buildings from the design vision of Art of Living’s Ian West, trialling the items for one unit before manufacturing the elements for the rest.
“We wanted a modern finish to match the contemporary design of the scheme,” says Ian. “And because of the beach-side location, we needed a material that could withstand the harsh conditions without needing constant maintenance.”

All of the bespoke products were specified to the exact dimensions of the buildings by ARP’s in-house CAD team to provide finished drawings for the client.
ARP supplied all of the aluminium panels, copings, fascia, soffits and porches, powder coated in RAL 7016 grey to exactly match the windows with a hardwearing marine grade polyester powder coating to protect the aluminium from erosion by the sea air.
ARP aluminium guttering comes in seventeen standard RAL colours, with the option to produce aluminium in any RAL colour for projects that require more vibrant options.
We can supply bespoke aluminium panels, copings, soffits, fascias, window pods, and canopies for any project, all of which can be powder-coated with a durable marine-grade polyester powder coating. This coating helps to protect the aluminium from deterioration caused by exposure to sea air if required.
